It's been a bit since I've had the chance to sit down and get one of these out, but that doesn't mean we haven't been out there getting rods bent. Lots of changes have happened in the last month or so on the river. Give it a read on down below to get the scoop.

Fishing Report - Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions

I know I'm not the only one who's been drooling over the weather forecast here lately. I've been looking forward to this cool down for a long while. Upper 50's in the morning and lower 80's in the afternoon without any humidity....doesn't get much better, especially compared to the triple digits temps we had.

The river is looking good, but getting real low. Unless we get a pretty substantial rain or two, we may be breaking out the waders a bit more often here soon. Beaver Lake is currently sitting at 1113.5 msl. The generation pattern seems to be slowing down, as the demand for power decreases. Typically we are looking at 1-2 hours in the late afternoon right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that go down further. For right now, I'm still able to navigate the lower half of the river pretty well in the boat, but without some rain that may change a bit.

What's Working

There's a good mix of bugs that I'm seeing success on right now. Everything from small bugger-esque streamers down to the trusty old Ruby and Rootbeer midges. When nymphing, we are generally running two fly rigs. I'm having most of my luck with the Beaver Blowtorch with either a Ruby or Rootbeer midge tagged below it. I'm fishing these anywhere from 2-8 feet deep depending on where I'm at on the river. I generally run these under the smallest indicator that I feel will keep it floating. I haven't had much need to run super long leaders and fine tippets, but if I were fishing the upper end of the river and wading, I might stretch it out a bit. For now, 4x and 5x is as small as I've felt like I needed.

Small streamers are always fun, and as our browns have been moving around a bit more, are always worth a try. Anything in the 1-3" range has been fishing well and can be a nice change of pace from watching an indicator.
