Fishing Report - Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions
Beaver Lake is currently at 1121.15, finally down below our target flood pool number of 1121.43. The control of water releases is now out of the Army Corps of Engineers hands and Southwest Power Administration is controlling our releases for hydropower generation. So in theory - our releases should only happen to help meet power demand. Overall, the last few days we have seen much less generation - just an hour or two a day. This means that wading is back on the table, so get out there if that is something that has been holding you back. Our water is as clear as you could ask it to be and the trout are happy and eating well.

What's Working
The flies that are getting our rods bent have sure changed with the water flows. As is typical, the smaller the flows and the river gets, the smaller our flies get. I'm having the most success with midges and small attractor nymphs. Perdigons in sizes 16, 18, and 20 have been very effective for me as the first fly in my rig. Their compact and streamlined shape paired with a tungsten bead mean that they sink quickly to my target depth and can "drag" a much smaller and lighter midge down the to depth I want very effeciently. In deeper water, I have been upsizing that Perdigon or Beaver Blowtorch up to something like a 14 to be a littler heavier and help me get down faster. For my dropper, I've been having success with all sorts of midges. The Rootbeer and Ruby midge are always a safe bet, and one of my anglers will absolutely have one tied on to start the day. On sunny days, flashier flies can be deadly and I've been throwing a Rainbow Warrior or Purple Jesus much more.
Various leech patterns are also good bets right now, especially in deeper sections of the river below Spider Creek. Micro Jigs are always going to get you some fish, and I've been playing with a new leech pattern that I should have on the website next week as well. It's been a consistent producer for me both under an indicator and retrieved.
Overall - just throw something small out there and you should have success right now!
