We've had a brief cooldown the last couple days, but the fishing sure hasn't! We are back into what I would consider a "normal" summertime generation schedule, and the fishing has been steady and good. Read on below to get all the details.

Fishing Report - Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions
Beaver Lake is currently sitting at 1120.2 msl and comfortably back below power pool. We've got a little rain in the forecast, but nothing major. The temperatures have dropped back down and are much more reasonable for the upcoming week, with highs in the upper 80's and low 90's. The generation pattern has been for SWPA to push two units of water, or a little over 7700 cfs, in late afternoon lasting for about 4 or 5 hours. These daily doses of fresh, cold water have been great for our fish and is keeping the water comfortable and well oxygenated. The water has been clean, clear and cold and the trout approve. I've spent most of my time in the upper 5 miles of the river lately, but there are fish to be caught all over.
What's Working
Most of my fishing hours have been in the lower water in the mornings here lately and what I'm catching them on reflects those conditions. Midges are always a solid bet, with the Rootbeer and Ruby being the most consistent for me. I'm typically dropping these below a Beaver Blowtorch or Perdigon. From the boat, I'm targeting deeper water and fishing these between 6 and 8 feet deep below an indicator. Micro Jigs and small Beaver Buggers are also working great for me, both stripped and drifted below an indicator.
I've had spotty success with dries, and have seen a few more Sulphurs popping around. In shallower stretches it isn't a bad idea to try a small generic dry fly any time, but particularly early in the morning before the sun is fully on the water.
Hopper fishing has been spotty for me this week, and I haven't given it the attention that I should to give it a fair shake, but I wouldn't hesitate to toss a small hopper, beetle, or ant to the banks.
Overall - the fish are being very cooperative. Some days, you may have to dial your tactics around to find out what they want for the day...but once you do it's been lights out.
