April 10, 2026 | Beaver Tailwater Fishing Report

Great weather and low water have been the name of the game around here lately. Everything is greening up nicely, dogwoods are blooming and fish are biting. Read on below for more details!

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions

After our rain over Easter weekend, the lake jumped up nicely and is sitting at 1117.3 msl, about a 2 foot rise from last week. We are still around 3 feet from the bottom end of the targeted power pool, so no major changes in generation schedule. The rain has increased the water levels in the lower part of the river enough to make navigation a little more comfortable, but there are still plenty of places to get into trouble if you don't know where the channel is. From Houseman, you should be able to get all the way up to Spider Creek, but that is the end of the line for boats. I'd love to see a little bit of afternoon generation to help push out some of the dirty water in the lower river and to help keep our water temps down, but it doesn't look like that's in the cards.

The white bass still haven't made an appearance, at least not in major numbers. Don't get me wrong, there are some in the river, but they just haven't made a major showing yet. It looks like we have a chance of rain nearly every day next week, and hopefully that will trigger enough of a river rise to push the whites up the river.

What's Working

Midges are starting to hatch a bit nearly every day and I'm starting to see a few fish rising, but nothing to write home about. The steady action is still midges and small leach patterns. This week we did catch a few trailing a soft hackle caddis behind a leach as well. Overall, the Ruby midge was the go to for me and I expect that to continue in low water conditions. In some riffles and moving water further up river, I had good luck with the Tailwater Sowbug with a Ruby Midge trailed behind.

Fishing in the lower parts of the river in stained water a black Micro Jig seemed to be the ticket. Black is generally my go-to color in stained water. Black stands out in stain much better than most think, because it cuts such a bold silhouette. In deeper and clear water, olive Micro Jigs get the nod for me.

We did have some success stripping small conehead leaches as well. This can be effective in all types of water is is always worth a shot. It can be lots of fun and very visual, allowing you to see fish chase and eat your fly.

To wrap up last week - we've seen a pretty steady bite and look for that to continue into next week. White bass will hopefully be showing up in mass and we'll have some fun chasing them with small streamers.
