April 3, 2026 | Beaver Tailwater Fishing Report

Updated: 3 days ago

Warm weather, trees starting to green up and solid fishing! I sure am glad to see a bit more green pop up on the landscape. The trout bite is great, white bass are moving in as the walleye fade out a bit. Read below on below for some details!

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions

Beaver Lake is still well below power pool and is holding around 1115.85. We could sure use some rain, and as we move into April and May, I'm sure we'll get plenty. For now, the lake is low and so is the tailwater. We haven't seen any generation in over a week now, so the upper part of the river has been prime for wading. The lack of generation is beginning to be a bit problematic, though. As we've had temps in the upper 80's the water is warming more than I'd like to see it, particularly in the lower half of the river. The lower river is also experiencing some increased stain since we haven't had a flush of clean water from the dam. The upper part of the river is starting to see a didymo (an invasive algae that covers rocks and drowns out beneficial plants and insects). A good flush of water would help with this, as didymo can only grow if the water is low enough for sunlight to penetrate the water.

With all that said, the fishing has still been pretty solid. We aren't having any trouble keeping rods bent on the trout front. While I haven't been intentionally targeting white bass, we are catching a few and seeing more and more.

What's Working

Midges in skinny water and micro-jigs or small leeches in deeper water remains the theme this week. I did start to see a few caddis and midges hatching in some of the warmer days, and am looking forward to some dry fly opportunities in the coming weeks.

For now, hanging midges below a small indicator has been the go-to move in the upper part of the river. In the lower river, micro jigs and small leeches or buggers are the name of the game. I'm starting to fish more and more "bugs" rather solely jigs and leeches, but with the stain it's just real hard to change over from the jig bite that has been so solid.

Stripping small streamers or buggers has been lots of fun, and adds in the possibilities of warmwater species too.

To sum up the week, I've been having a great time putting people on fish! We've had the rods bent most of the day, and are sorting through a few white bass as well. I'm looking forward to focusing a bit more on warmwater fish this coming week!
