The water has been dropping and the fishing has been hot. Read below for details full details on the Beaver Tailwater fishing report.
Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions
Good news for the wading angler, the water is dropping! The Corp of Engineers is pulling roughly 6" of water a day out of Table Rock Lake and that is bringing down the level in in Beaver Tailwater. Click here to see the predicted generation schedule. Good wade water is on the horizon and I would expect to see that in the next 7 - 10 days barring another major rain event.

There is already some wading access available at Parker Bottoms and up around the dam. The water has been clean and clear, particularly above Spider Creek. The Corp of Engineers has been pushing about 3750 cfs of water through the dam in the late afternoons for around 6 hours, and this pattern should continue for the foreseeable future. As always with the Corp of Engineers, this pattern is subject to change with the demand for electricity. With the temperatures forecast for next week, we could see an increase in power generation in response to all the extra power going toward air conditioning.
What's Working
In the morning prior the the dam turning on, I am seeing success on a variety of flies. The fish have been eating the Tailwater Sowbug and Ruby Midge combo very well for me in shallower water. I'm generally fishing them 4 - 5 feet below an indicator and targeting the tailouts of deeper pools. In deeper holes, 1/124 oz. and 1/80 oz. micro jigs in olive or black are doing great for numbers of fish. I'm setting these below an indicator and suspending them within a couple feet of the river bottom.
When the water turns on in the afternoon, running streamers is always a great option. Double Deceivers in Chartreuse/White or Olive/Yellow are some of my go to flies. When the water comes up it has been kicking some mud off the banks and adding a little color, which is good for big fish on the hunt. I'm throwing these on a 300 grain, type 6 sinking line on 8 weight rods to get the flies down quickly. If you'd like to get in on the streamer bite, check out my calendar and book an afternoon session.
Guide Insights
It sure has been nice to be able to see some river bottom for a change! We should be settling into a steady summer-time bite and midges will be on the menu daily. With the afternoon generation don't hesitate to get out and throw some streamers. I know Beaver Tailwater doesn't have the big-fish streamer reputation that other parts of the White River do, but they're here. Wednesday I had a serious swipe from a brown that looked like he would have pushed past the two foot mark. It was my last cast before heading to the ramp and he sure caught me sleeping!
The weather this coming week looks to be brutally hot, so make sure you stay hydrated and safe.
