We are continuing to deal with the ups and downs of spring, from rain to wind to fluctuating temperatures there is always a curveball to try to deal with. However, there are always plenty of fish to be caught, and the seasonal warmwater species are starting to move through the process more every time we get an uptick in flows or water temps. Read on below for more details.

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions
Beaver Lake is still well below power pool, but has ticked up a little bit to 1115.84, up around 2 feet from last week thanks to the several round of rain we received. The river is still pretty low (check out the pictures below) and getting up above the Hwy 62 bridge from the Houseman access is still a no-go. The water has had a little stain to it below Spider Creek, but nothing that should stop you from getting a line out there. We have been seeing sporadic generation of a few hours. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening, but there have been consistent windows that allow wading anglers access to the river.
The walleye and white bass are showing up more and more, and it should break loose any day now. If we could get some consistent generation, it would sure help, but I don't think that's in the cards. With the lake low and not much strain on the electric grid, there isn't much reason for water to be released.
What's Working
Same story as last week for me on this front. Midges or small sowbugs/scuds in clean, clear water. I'm fishing these below a small indicator (I'm partial to the small Palsa pinch on kind) and on a long leader. Ruby midges continue to produce alot of fish, as do small perdigons. In deeper sections, I'm fishing micro jigs. We fish these below an indicator and try to keep them within a foot or of the bottom of the river. For a change of pace, don't be afraid to take the indicator off and strip them, as they work great that way too.
We are also catching fish by stripping small buggers or soft hackles when we want a little change of pace from indicator fishing. It's also getting to be the time of year to have my dry fly boxes with me, and I'm looking forward to what's to come on that front.
To sum up the week - Lots of changes with the ups and downs in temps, and our white bass and walleye are starting to show up more and more. Just a little more uptick in flows and we should see them make a big push upriver. The trout game is steady as always and there are plenty of fish to be caught.
