Fall weather is here and it has been great! Crisp mornings warming up into pleasant afternoons really make for a great time to be out on the water. We've had some ups and downs with the flows, but we should be settling back into a more predictable pattern after the big rains from a couple weeks ago.

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions
Currently, Beaver Lake is sitting at 1120.3 msl, which is right below flood pool. As such, SWPA has control of the generation schedule and we will likely be seeing releases continue during the warmest part of the day to keep up with electric demand. With no significant rainfall predicted we should be settling into a pattern of low water in the mornings and generation coming online mid-afternoon. This makes for great wading in the mornings until the water comes up and nice opportunities to drift fish when the water comes up in late afternoon.
Downstream from Beaver Tailwater, Table Rock Lake is still a little high, and that is keeping our water a little higher (around 917 msl) and flowing a little slower. The water clarity is excellent.
What's Working
As brown trout begin to stage more and more for the spawn, bright streamers like Double Deceivers in brown/yellow or olive/yellow are working well when the water is up. When the water is down in the mornings, any number of flies have been producing well. The standard Ruby and Rootbeer Midge have been great, as have size 18 or 20 Perdigons below a Tailwater Sowbug. If you want to fish nymphs in the afternoons when the water is up, it's hard to beat an egg or Y2K in combination with a sowbug of your favorite flavor.
This week, as we have had a few days with good wind chop the 1/124 oz micro jig in olive has been an amazing tool to have in your box. Repeat customer Rick had a banner day yesterday. I'm not one to keep an actual count of how many fish hit the boat, but something made me decide to tally them up. He ended up putting 83 in the net (with one nice rainbow just shy of 18") yesterday and I'm sure his arm is feeling it this morning. The hot flies were the micro jig, which put about 50 in the boat and the size 20 Perdigon, which accounted for the rest.
Right now is a great time to get out on the river. We have the ability to look for and sight fish to pre-spawn large browns, or fill the boat with big numbers depending on what you're after. My calendar still has some openings, so take a look and a trip booked soon!
Check out the store portion of our website for flies, and if you need something you don't see there...don't hesitate to reach out! I can make it happen.
