October 3, 2025 | Beaver Tailwater Fishing Report

It's been an interesting week with water flows, from flood gates open to low flows. Adapting to the different conditions can be a challenge at times, but it's all part of the fun. The weather has been great, and we are shaping up for some beautiful fall fishing.

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions

We certianly got a curveball thrown in the early part of this week, with the dam opening up one unit plus flood gates Monday and Tuesday to evacuate some of the water out of Beaver Lake. The flood gate releases were not something that I guessed would be coming, but it was a welcome surprise. I was able to spend that day on the water with my favorite client, my dad. We had a great time and probably put 20 browns in the boat. The fish were very active and in the mood to chase.

Wednesday and Thursday both saw late afternoon releases of 1 unit, and today calls for 1 unit around the clock. What will the weekend hold? Who knows!?! If you are planning to wade, a check of the schedule and the real time data would be wise. If you have access to a boat, you should be good and will have no trouble finding active fish if the water is running.

What's Working

In the higher flows, streamers and double nymph rigs fished deep will be the way to go. I had lots of fish eating streamers of all sorts and colors this week. I had to dial through colors at different times, but the general rule of "bright day - bright fly, dark day - dark fly" generally held true for me.  Double Deceivers in Olive/Yellow or Brown/Yellow were solid producing flies.

In low flows, size 18 or 20 Perdigon below a Tailwater Sowbug were solid producing rigs. The Micro Jig is always a great bet in deeper pools and particularly any time you are covering water quickly.

The egg bite isn't quite here, but will be ramping up over the next couple weeks. Make sure to have several different colors in your box and ready to go.
