September 12, 2025 | Beaver Tailwater Fishing Report

Well folks - the lake is finally down to power pool from all the spring rains and flooding. Overall, we should have much more time in low water, and wade fishers should rejoice. Brown trout are beginning to stage up and move further upriver and leaves will be turning soon. What a great time to get out on the water!

Beaver Tailwater Levels & Conditions

Right now the generation pattern over the last few days appears to have settled into a few hours of late afternoon generation from around 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. The releases have remained consistent around 3800 cfs. Now that the lake is below power pool, I have every reason to believe that this pattern will be here for a while. As the the temperatures rise this weekend and early next week, we may see a bit more generation as power demand increases, but low flows will generally be the name for the foreseeable future.

The tailwater elevation continues to remain right around 916.55 and I would expect it to hold fairly steady at this level, or continue a very slow drop.

Wade fisherman - rejoice! The water (or lack of) you've been looking for is here!

What's Working

It's been a busy week and I've had the opportunity to be on the water a fair bit. I haven't got to fish much myself, but I've had the chance to sort through a lot of patterns and fish. During no generation, the 1/124 oz. and 1/80 oz. micro jig in olive or black have been solid producers as always. In particular when there is some chop on the water from wind. The  Tailwater Sowbug (during times with clouds) or a Purple Haze (during brighter sunlight) with a Ruby or  Rootbeer Midge continue to get the job done. As we get closer to fall and winter, eggs will become a much more important part of what I'm fishing, both during low and high water. I've been restocking myself and filling a few orders as well. I've also updated the fly store with LOTS more colors and types of eggs. Get your order in now to be ready for the next few months!

During periods of generation, small streamers continue to be a lot of fun. From an indicator standpoint drifting a Y2K with a Purple Haze as the dropper is the default rig that I go to when fishing indicators. I'm running these 6 - 8 feet below an indicator on 3x tippet with a single BB split shot.

Guide Insights

Fall is right around the corner. If you look close, some of the maples are starting to show hints of color, and I can't wait to get out with some amazing colors on the water. I've got a big drop of new flies coming next week, so be on the lookout for that! But below is a little sneak of the general style that I'll soon be offering. Jig/Euro nymphs have been very fun to both tie and fish, and have filled a hole that was missing in my box. They are great to get down quickly, yet still maintain a small and slim profile....oh and fish like them quite a bit too.
